Closing the gap between the needs of the cybersecurity industry and the skills of tertiary education graduates
Insight chairs a working group on Digital skills and education in the IS3C, which is a dynamic coalition in the UN's Internet Governance Forum. In 2021, Insight together with the IS3C launched a study to better understand the skill shortage in the cybersecurity sector. It began with a series of interviews conducted with industry, business and tertiary education leaders in 14 countries, to draw up a base-line set of transversal and professional skills. Further research was then conducted via a survey questionnaire with responses from 66 countries worldwide. The project is supported by the Polish organisation, NASK, and the Dutch SIDN Fonds. Results confirm that a big gap definitely exists! The report was officially presented at the yearly Internet Governance Forum in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, on 1 December 2022. Read the research report here to find out more about the skills that appear to be lacking, the solutions proposed, some of the good practices already underway, and recommendations from Insight on the way forward.
